Abstract
How can the entrepreneurship eco-system in Singapore grow to develop world-beating companies?
SMEs, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship have been an area of policy priority for nearly a decade in Singapore. Tremendous government support coupled with a robust intellectually strong environment are the positive foundations on which the entrepreneurship eco-system in Singapore is based.
Yet, is this enough to make entrepreneurship thrive in Singapore? Can we see a few or even a single world-leading company arise from this foundation? What careers and skills can our MBA students develop in this eco-system.
Join us in this session where we explore these questions with our three panelists who have deep experience in fund-raising and venture development as developed in careers marked by success after success. They will share their experiences and expectations about the entrepreneurship eco-system in Singapore, and how an MBA student can shape their careers for success in a dynamic and technologically challenging world. Professor Ike Lee

Professor Ike Lee is CEO of Lee Technology Consulting, which specialises in providing strategic management consulting, and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) advisory services to industry leaders as well as startup companies. In the past 25 years, he has spearheaded efforts in advising joint venture and alliance partnerships worth several billion US dollars between North America and Asia. He now manages his own fund with a portfolio of more than 15 investee companies in various industries and countries, and syndicated with reputable venture capitalists around the world.
Mr Lee has built a formidable record of success as an angel investor, venture capitalist and mentor to startup management teams. He previously oversaw a business incubation centre located at the Stanford Research Park in Palo Alto, California. He has been involved in seven IPOs on NASDAQ, including the hugely successful listing of Netscreen Technologies in 2001. Goldman Sachs voted this as its IPO of the Year after raising US$160 million from the offer, well above its target. The latest feather in his cap is the successful IPO of Fortinet on the NASDAQ in 2009, with a market capitalization that is now close to US$8 billion.
He has been an executive advisor to NUS Enterprise since 2014 and an adjunct professor at NUS Business School since 2015.

Professor Chau has over 28-year extensive experience in venture development and investment in the Asian Pacific region. Currently, he is the Founding Chairman of QLeap Venture Fund, a venture capital fund mainly investing in Asian early-stage technology ventures; Chairman of Pan Asia Venture Development Platform (PAVD) www.pavd.inf ; the Founding Joint CFO (Honorary) of the Asia Entrepreneurship Education Alliance (AEEA), an alliance formed by 24 renowned universities from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore; the Founding Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Business Angel Network; and a Founding Council member of the Hong Kong Biotechnology Organization. In addition, Professor Chau sits in the Board of several technology ventures and listed companies.
In the academic area, he is a Professor of Practice in Entrepreneurship and an Associate Director of the MBA Programs, teaching MBA and EMBA courses in the topics of new venture creation, entrepreneurship, venture capital and private equity in CUHK Business School, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (“CUHK”). He is also a visiting professor in the Asia University, Taiwan. Other than teaching postgraduate courses, PAVD cooperates with the CUHK MBA Programs to help students developing technology ventures in Asia. Its current portfolio consists of technology projects from China, Hong Kong, USA and Taiwan. Professor Chau is also an Advisor to the Business Accelerators in National Chiao Tung University (NCTU).
Professor Chau has obtained a bachelor degree in applied maths, a law degree, a master degree and a doctorate degree in business administration. He is also a fellow member of The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants of the United Kingdom.

Deepak Natarajan is a technology industry veteran whose career spans 35 years as a venture capitalist, start-up executive, and as a global marketing and sales executive at pioneering companies across the technology spectrum – semiconductors, systems, wireless, software, and internet services. During the past 8 years, Mr. Natarajan ran Intel Capital’s SEA and ANZ operations from Singapore, and served on the boards of 10 Intel Capital portfolio companies. Prior to this assignment, Mr. Natarajan spent 27 years in Silicon Valley and established an excellent track record as a venture capitalist (Redwood Ventures, Storm Ventures), start-up executive (Seeker Software and Roamware), and as a global marketing and sales executive (Silicon Graphics, Sun Microsystems, and Autodesk).
Mr. Natarajan is based in Singapore. He has expertise in the areas of Fund Raising, Product Ideation, Market Entry and Scaling, Executive coaching, and Career Planning
Mr. Natarajan holds an MBA from the Haas School of Business (Berkeley), a Masters in Mechanical Engineering (U. of California, Berkeley), and a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering (U. of Washington, Seattle).
